Arthur and Josephine (Boudreau) Metty's three sons

As noted earlier, Arthur and Josephine were married on June 2nd, 1936 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Currie, Murray, Minnesota. Their first of three sons was born on April 14th, 1939 on a farm approximately one and three quarter miles south of the village of Currie. They named me Cleo Francis. My maternal grandfather was named Francis, so my middle name of Francis is understandable, but I never heard my parents nor anyone else mention how the name Cleo was selected. It is rather interesting to note that several persons of both sex in the Currie area bear the name Cleo. I was christened on April 23rd, 1939 in the same church where my parents were married.

Their second son followed on January 2nd, 1943. By this time our parents had relocated to another farm approximately five miles southeast of the village of Currie and it is here that Ronald Arthur was born. He too was christened at the same church and that event took place on January 10th, 1943.
























Their third and last son was born on December 28, 1946. Again our parents had relocated to a farm three miles east of the village of Currie, which they had purchased in 1944. However by the time our little brother entered life, going to the hospital to give birth was the thing to do, so he was born in Home Hospital in Slayton, Minnesota. He was named Lyle Adrian and was christened on January 12th 1947 in Currie. His middle name is that of mother's step-father.

We all grew to adulthood on the farm east of Currie and attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School in the village. After we had all graduated and left home, our parents remained on their farm until circa 1972 when they terminated the farming operation and sold all of their machinery and livestock.

Our parents are long since deceased, but all of the sons remain alive and well: Cleo and his wife Patricia reside in Eight Mile, Alabama; Ronald and his wife Jeanne reside in Wewauwega, Wisconsin; and Lyle and his spouse Arlene reside in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Michael Raymond Metty, born in Michigan in 1962 joined the U. S. Navy in 1980 and after retirement from the Navy made his home the St Mary's/Kingsland Georgia area.  He died on 28 January 2013 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Mary's, Georgia.

Isaac Metty

So the reader may ask, who was this Isaac Metty who died in the service of his country! Isaac was the third of eight children born to the union of Isaias (Eli) and Mary Anne Beauregard. He was born on 7 November 1841 and baptized the following August 1842 at St. Mary's Church in Monroe, Michigan. He enlisted in Company K of the 7th Michigan Volunteers on 29 January 1864 at Monroe, Michigan for a term of three years. The company was mustered at Detroit on the following day. At the time of enlistment, Isaac was described as being 5'6" in height, fair complexion, with blue eyes and brown hair. His occupation is given as farmer. The Seventh was reassembled at the end of January 1864 and returned to its old camp at Barry's Hill. In May the regiment started on the long campaign which finally ended in the siege of Petersburg and the surrender of the army of northern Virginia. It was part of the famous Second Corps, and crossed the Rapidan at Ely's Ford on the 4th of May....

Jacques Mete

Recently Debra Metty Beveridge wrote to me with this inquiry: Happened across some interesting information when I was looking up something on the Lewis and Clark expedition for our fifth grade curriculum. There was a Jacques Mete who was an interpreter to the Indian tribes during this trip. He's mentioned in their journals and referred to by L & C as "Mr. Metty". I looked up some of the Indian Treaties with the U.S. govt., and he's listed as an interpreter for the govt. for almost every single one! It must be the same Jacques Mete as our grandfather, don't you think? My response: I was delighted to receive your information concerning Jacques Mete. I found your comment about his being mentioned in the L & C journals and referred to as Mr. Metty very intriguing.
