Alexis Metty son of Felix & Catherine

Alexis was born on 26 April 1809 at Assumption, Sandwich. He married on 22 November 1830 to Mary Clara Lacelle at St Antoine, River Raison. Mary was the sister of Julia Angelica spouse of Hubert Metty. To this union was born Three children, namely:

Alexis, born 8 September 1831
Clara, 17 December 1833
Catherine, 20 October 1838

All the children were born at St Antoine's on the River Raison.

This union ended tragically for Alexis and his children according to an entry in the History of St Joseph County: "The first death of a white person in the township was in 1835, the person being the wife of Alexander C. Metha and daughter of Colonel Lasell of Monroe, she being accidentally shot by her husband." However, in another publication entitled The French Settlements in St Joseph County it is written: "The first death, among the white people, was that of Mrs. Alexander Metty, the daughter of Colonel La Selle of Monroe. Mrs. Metty was accidentally shot by her husband, who, no doubt, took her for a deer, even in those early days. (Page 22)(Note in the latter entry, the name is spelled Metty. There is a discrepancy in the date given in the first quote as well, as Catherine, their daughter was born in 1838 according to The Genealogy of the French Families of the Detroit River Region Vol. II which has proven to be most accurate on numerous occasions.

On one occasion Alexis is referred to as Elisa Metta. Findings also indicate that Alexis would married twice more during his long life. Also it is reasonable to believe that somewhere in Mendon township of St. Joseph County Michigan there lies the gravesite of Mary Clara Lacelle Metty, perhaps even in Mendon itself.
