This is a copy of the court entry found in the Pottowatomie County clerk of court's office, Westmoreland, Kansas in 1982. It was preserved on microfilm and reads as follows:
On the 9th of July 1863, I joined in wedlock Solomon T. Metty & Alice Palmer in the presence of Bernard (sp) Bertrand & Palmer McCartney. (Signature of official illegible)
Received for record Aug 21, 1863 @ 12 o'clock. A. P. Smith, clerk

Recently Debra Metty Beveridge wrote to me with this inquiry: Happened across some interesting information when I was looking up something on the Lewis and Clark expedition for our fifth grade curriculum. There was a Jacques Mete who was an interpreter to the Indian tribes during this trip. He's mentioned in their journals and referred to by L & C as "Mr. Metty". I looked up some of the Indian Treaties with the U.S. govt., and he's listed as an interpreter for the govt. for almost every single one! It must be the same Jacques Mete as our grandfather, don't you think? My response: I was delighted to receive your information concerning Jacques Mete. I found your comment about his being mentioned in the L & C journals and referred to as Mr. Metty very intriguing. Michael Raymond Metty, born in Michigan in 1962 joined the U. S. Navy in 1980 and after retirement from the Navy made his home the St Mary's/Kingsland Georgia area.  He died on 28 January 2013 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, St. Mary's, Georgia.
