Jacques Mete'

In recent correspondence, Ellen Metty Rose inquired about Jacques marriages. Jacques' first spouse was Marie Francoise Lalouette LeBeau, sometimes referred to as Frances Bau. She was born and baptized on 4 Oct 1703 at Boucherville, the daughter of Rene Lalouette LeBeau and Marie Madeliene Guertin. She first married on 21 March 1726 to Joseph Cornet at Boucherville, Province of Quebec Canada. This marriage ended with the death of Joseph who was buried at Boucherville on 23 May 1727. Prior to this marriage Marie LeBeau gave birth to a daugther on 19 December 1725 at Boucherville. I suspect that there is a high probability that Joseph was the father of this child but I have not found proof of that fact. The child was named Marguerite LeBeau and was baptized on the day of birth. Following the marriage of Joseph and Marie, another daughter was born on 12 Jan 1727. This daughter was named Marie Josephe Cornet and she married Jean Baptiste Pelletier Antaya 26 May 1743 at St. Famille Catholic Church, Boucherville. She died at Detroit on 4 May 1807 and is buried there.

Marie Francoise again gave birth out of wedlock, this time to another daughter who would be named Marie Therese Mete' Ladouceur Forcier. This birth took place sometime in 1729 and it is probable that Marie Francoise and Jacques were living together as man and wife, given the name of the child. On 5 Oct 1750, Marie Therese married Charles Lacasse dit St. Aubin at St. Anne de Detroit, Fort Detroit, New France. She gave birth to four children before her death in 1759. She was buried at St. Anne de Detroit on 1 May 1759.

Jacques and Marie Francoise were married on 1 December 1730 at St. Famille, Boucherville, Province of Quebec, in the presence of her two brothers, Jacques and Rene LeBeau. This marriage would extend to May 1742, when Marie Francoise died. She was buried on 9 May 1742 at St. Famille, Boucherville. To this union was born nine children, including the aforementioned Marie Therese.

Following the death of Marie Francoise, Jacques took another wife. This second marriage occurred on 30 July 1742 at St Francois Xavier Catholic Church, Vercheres, Province of Quebec. The spouse this time was one Marie Louise Jarret-Beauregard, born in 1715 at Repentingy, L'Acdia, Province of Quebec. She was the daughter of Louis Jarret-Beauregard and Marguerite St Aubin. To this union was born four children prior to Jacques demise in November 1747. He was buried at St. Famille on 11 November 1747 in the presence of his two brother-in-laws, Jacques and Francois LeBeau.

Following the death of Jacques, Marie Louise married Francois Demers Dumais on 14 Jan 1755. She died on 9 Jan 1761 and was buried the following day the church of St. Jean Francois Regis.

*In the early days of colonization, clergy were not always readily available to perform the marriage ceremony. In fact many weeks or months may elapse between visits of ordained clergy to the local churchs. Thus it was not unusual for a young couple to cohabitate for a sometime without submitting to the formal rites of marriage.
