Leander second child of Felix & Catherine

The second child of Felix and Catherine Metty was another son, and this one they named Leander. He was born on 14 March 1798 in Detroit. The first written record of Leander that I have discovered was in Volume XI of the Michigan Territorial papers, wherein on page 194 is recorded a transcript of the Registers of Ballots of the Election of the town and county of Monroe in the Territory of Michigan taken at the election held the 6th of September 1821. Leander Mettez is recorded as one of the electors. Next on 4 September 1823, on page 469 one finds Election at Council House in Detroit for delegate to Congress and for Legislative Council for Territory of Michigan. Among voters listed are: Antoine Mettez, Bazzeil Mettez, Charles Mettez (with the notaiton "rejected"), Francis Mettez, Leon Mettez, Rene Mettez and Theophilus Mettez. I believe that the listing for Leon is actually Leander.

By 10 January 1825, the French Families of the Detroit River Region, places Leander at St Antoine on the River Raisin where he is wed to one Mare Anne Mouton, born there on 27 July 1810, daughter of Francis Mouton and Catherine Navarre. There known children are:

Zoe Iphigenie b. 27 July 1826 River Raison
Gaulbertus Herminigildus b. 26 May 1829 St Antoine
Sophie M. b. 20 July 1832 Washtenaw, MI
Samuel b. 25 May 1836 Monroe
Solomon Timothy b. 7 October 1837 Monroe
William b. Dec 1845, St Joseph Co, MI

Leander apparently died in early 1853 as notice of the probate of his estate appeared in the Western Chronicle on 19 April of that year. His wife Mary Ann is thought to have died sometime prior to the 1850 census as she is not to be found in that record. It is possible that she died shortly after the birth of William as explained in my prior posting on the wives of Leander.
