
METTY, J. Keith Ypsilanti, MichiganAge 88
Died Saturday, February 1, 2008 at his residence. He was born January 29, 1920, in Mendon, Michigan, the son of Louis and Florence (Moyer) Metty. Keith graduated from Centerville High School in Centerville, Michigan in 1937. He was the owner and operator of Formed Concrete Inc. in Ypsilanti until 1962. He used his talents to build a 12 unit apartment house on Miami Street and several other homes in the Ypsilanti area for himself. He was also one of the original owners/builders of Milan Dragway. From that became his interest in real estate. Keith was a Realtor Broker and twice Past President of the Ypsilanti Board of Realtors and also a lifetime member of the Ann Arbor Area Board of Realtors, receiving a 45 year ruby pin in 2005. He and his wife Virginia operated Metty Real Estate for 20 years. Besides his Realtor license, he held his Builders License with the State of Michigan. Keith was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, a member of the Ypsilanti Moose Lodge #782, member of the Ypsilanti Senior Citizens and the Ypsilanti Twp. Lively Travelers Senior Citizens. He was also a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Ypsilanti; the Knights of Columbus, Chapter 3230 holding a 4th degree, and also a member of the Leisure Club. He loved to play bingo and was instrumental in starting weekly bingo at St. Alexis Catholic Church in Ypsilanti. Keith and Virginia loved to travel and will be remembered for traveling all 52 states and several European Countries. He was married to Lydia Elizabeth Tonelli of Battle Creek in 1940 and she died in a truck-car accident in 1952. To this union 5 children were born: Keith J. (June) Metty, Phyllis Ann (Douglas) Manwaring who preceded him, Douglas Carl (Judy) Metty who preceded him, Sharon Lee Richards and Jacquline Marie (Daniel) Meggison. On January 7, 1967, he married Virginia Meyers Meggison and became “Pops” to Virginia Dale Meggison, Rolland Leroy (Shirley) Meggison, Bonnie Lou Dunkley and Daniel Lee (Jacqueline) Meggison; 20 grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; l sister, Janice Ann (Aaron) Girbach of Saline; several nieces, nephews and many friends. Besides his first wife, Lydia, daughter Phyllis and son Douglas, he was preceded by 3 sisters and l brother. Rite of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Ypsilanti.
